What a long month January seems to be!! The last weeks of 2007 were days - and nights - filled with the sight and smell of many wonderful, delicious foods - many of which, those of us who are diabetic, must learn to avoid or at least consume in moderation.
Now January is here and, for most of Canada, this has been a January made up of cold temperatures and lots of snow. It is only the 19th of January and already cabin fever has struck!! I enjoy sharing meals with friends and having the opportunity to practice my "diabetiquetic"! I am disabled and although I am fairly mobile with the use of a walker and my car, when I am able to go to my parking spot. However, my "wings are clipped" during this winter as I have been told I have to stay away from ice and snow. It would be so nice to go to a restaurant with friends and have the fun of choosing a meal from the menu which is appetizing and also diabetic - friendly. Instead, I have searched my apartment for tempting food - what is here is frozen in an uncooked state or so rich I know that I would feel quite unwell if I succomb to temption and eat it - having done this before!
I am not complaining, just looking for the humour in a January day. Enjoy the crisp sunny days and the time to play in the snow, as well as the times you may have to practice your diabetiquetic!
